Spring Bird Festival | Toronto, Ontario

Spring Bird Festival | Toronto

On their way to their summer breeding grounds via Toronto in May, some 50 million birds will pass. The Tree Swallows, a magnificent and dynamic aerialist breed in Colonel Samuel Smith Park after migrating there in the spring from their wintering homes in the south, are a popular birding destination in Toronto. Train your hearing and sight to find and recognize birds by hanging out with seasoned birdwatchers and wildlife lovers! As you go around Colonel Samuel Smith Park, observe the birds as they soar, dive, and rest. You'll discover why such a wide variety of bird species may be found in this particular urban setting. We welcome experience of all levels! Owning a pair of binoculars or a smartphone with a good zoom will enhance the experience.
The largest green area in Toronto is Tommy Thompson Park, which is also a vital resting place for migratory birds. Tommy Thompson Park is situated on the Toronto Waterfront. 318 natural species have been counted in the park thus far!

Spring Bird Festival | Ontario

Other than Toronto, this fantastic birding festival is held in Ontario. About 20 km (miles) southeast of Picton, Ontario, on the northeast side of Lake Ontario, is where you'll find Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area (NWA). This region of the Long Point Peninsula has been identified as a critical location for migrating birds since the mid-1960s. A remarkable number of migrating passerine birds congregate near the tip of the peninsula due to its geographic position and diversity of habitats. As part of their spring and autumn migration, several nocturnal and diurnal raptors also travel through the region. Workshops, banding demonstrations, and guided walks and excursions are part of the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory Spring Birding Festival.
