Warblers and Whimbrels Weekend | Ontario

The occasion honors the migration in the spring of smaller songbirds like warblers and shorebirds like Whimbrels. May marks the beginning of the arrival of the tens of thousands of songbirds and shorebirds that migrate through Presqu'ile Provincial Park, and this weekend is jam-packed with events aimed at introducing guests to some of the most stunning birds sought after by birdwatchers.
The display of bird banding from 8 am to noon at the parking area for the Owen Point Trail will be the main event for many. Visitors will get a rare opportunity to watch birds up close and discover how and why birds have banded, thanks to licensed bird banders. For the birds' safety, this activity is reliant on the weather.
Warblers & Whimbrels Weekend provides birders a fantastic opportunity to observe and admire a wide variety of bird species since the birds rest and eat before migrating north. Bird walks organized by naturalists are a great way for both novice birders and seasoned birders to learn more about birds.

It's Warblers and Whimbrels Weekend at Presqu’ile, during late May, hosted by the Friends of Presqu'ile Park. On the first day morning, it starts with a stroll. The Lighthouse Center is where it begins at 6:30 a.m. (another walk will be held Sunday at the same time). A hike is offered on both days at 10 a.m. for those who would prefer a later start. Although they are sometimes referred to as the "jewels of the forest," warblers can be challenging to spot. More than 20 species this weekend may be located and identified with the aid of our specialists. While the early morning is the most fantastic time to see birds, there is generally activity all day long during migration, so we should see birds on our later and earlier outings.
