A well-known and common bird of fields and parks is the large, black-necked Canada Goose, with its distinctive white chinstrap mark. Thousands of "honkers" annually migrate north and south, causing lengthy V-formations to develop in the sky. But as lawns have spread, more and more of these grassland-adapted birds are making year-round homes in urban and suburban settings, where some people consider them pests.

Canada Goose ID
Canada Geese can often be seen swimming in open water, relaxing near the coast, or grazing on lawns or agricultural fields throughout the summer and increasingly during other times of the year. They may frequently be heard flying overhead, day or night. If you pay attention to their honking, you might be able to distinguish them from other types of geese or swans as they fly.
